Julian BlackDirector of Climbing Programs
An avid climber for most of his life, Julian took his first job working in a climbing gym at age 15 as an instructor and personal trainer. Since then, he has continued to work professionally with climbers as a consultant, trainer, and coach. Julian's philosophy on climbing and training is that training should be fun and rewarding, and should yield strong and obvious results.
"For me, it comes down to confidence. Whether success means going out and placing top 5 in nationals, or just feeling really natural and graceful on the easy boulder problems at the local crag is up to the individual. Good training in the gym should give you the confidence to put your hands on the starting holds and know, hey, I can do this!"
